On the off chance that you’re reading this blog and are not either a friend or a relative, my name is Dave Gau. I’m currently a 39 year old animator, improv comedian, husband, and father of the coolest 8 year old ever. I’ve got a very very out of date website at www.davegau.net That’s the nutshell.
I was diagnosed with a pituitary gland tumor in January 2007. This blog is simply a chronicle of what followed, from the build-up to surgery through the recovery.

Hi Dave, I’ve been reading your blog with interest since I also am recovering from pituitary surgery. Mine was for Cushing’s Syndrome. I had mine the first part of January so I am a bit further along with it. I also have the mystery gut bruise and so do quite a few of my Cushing’s friends. Now there is something to ponder! A theory is that it is the adrenal gland trying to kick up some cortisol, but nobody knows for sure. I’m not sure if that would be the case with a non-secreting tumor, though.
Good luck with your recovery. Hope you continue to improve.

Hi, Mary! I hope that your surgery was very successful in addressing all of the issues surrounding Cushing’s Syndrome and that your recovery has been going well!
I think the biggest thing about this gut bruise issue is that it IS such a mystery. There’s a bunch of tremendously intelligent surgeons and endocrinologists and miscellaneous gut doctors out there, and we can’t be the first ones to have experienced this. And yet, it remains a mystery. The adrenal gland theory is a good one, and even though my tumor was non-secreting, it’s still possible (in my non-medically trained opinion) that the pituitary gland could still conceivably respond to the surgery in that way.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the blog!
Take care!

Dave,
I hope things are still well for you. I have a pituitary gland tumor, pumping out Growth Hormone in my case (so I have acromegaly).
All the best,
Trystan
